Currently in the USA they are being held R&D works to enlarge the average life cycle of batteries to 20 years. New battery features will combine as well capacitor features in terms of loading time parameters and possibility for continuous working even after physical damage. Mentioned features will be achiveled thanks to the technology usage of so called “dry cells” made of solid materials. New battery will have almost perfect energy efficiency (loading vs. discharging ratio) during the whole lifecycycle. The battery price is not known at the moment but it is said unofficially that it will not much vary from current price levels. We can predict the storm coming in this market soon.
Energy Storage domain is becoming more and more attractive for investors - e.g. 475 million of US dollars were invested in 2009 for a battery production plant located in Michigan, USA (in the facilities left after closed Ford Factory). Planned production capacity amounts to 2000 MW on the year basis. Presented investment will be executed in common with producers of solar panels, so we can expect some spectacular joint-ventures in the field.
